Soon people the world over will be celebrating the New Year 2018. Oh wow. Deja vue all over again. And again. And again. Last year’s New Year’s Resolution lists? Pull them out – let’s use them – they didn’t last very long. We’ll try harder this time. More determination. Persistence. Fortitude. Resolve. THIS YEAR we’ll keep them, right?
Who are we kidding? You and I both know how doomed this is! Doing things by the power of human ability is so limited—to our ability. Well, don’t be depressed my friend, but consider the power of GOD.
Paul tells us in 2 Cor 5:17 if we are IN Christ then we have been transformed into NEW CREATIONS, the old things HAVE passed away; NEW THINGS HAVE COME! Paul declares there is a new way of living: in Christ, in the grace of God, in the power of the Holy Spirit – by faith.
The best New Year’s resolution? RESOLVING to believe this and ALL that God says concerning us! How about we reckon ourselves dead to sin and alive to God – Ro 6:11? How about the words of Paul in Gal 2:20 our own confession: “I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me, and the life that I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave up His life for me.”
As Paul did:
– let’s see our old man, on that cross with Jesus; dead
– let’s see ourselves under the Lordship of Jesus, not controlled by our own desires
– and let’s see Jesus alive within us, and us trusting Him with our own lives.
Reality from God’s viewpoint declares we ARE heirs of GOD; adopted into His family; with the full rights and privileges of His own son! May God’s reality become YOUR REALITY in 2018—after all, 2018 is a wonderful year to COME ALIVE! Happy New Year!
